Windtopia and Renewed at Lone Star College Kingwood Fine Art Gallery

Artist Mark Chen's provocative and beautifully realized mixed-media installation Windtopia will be up at the Lone Star College - Kingwood Fine Art Gallery January 19 through April 30.

The installation combines photography, video, painting (including collaborative works Chen created with his mother Shiao-Nan Cen), sound, and live actors to imagine a world where wind power has become the planet's primary source of energy. Utopia or dystopia? You decide.

The score I've created for Mark's installation is an extended mix of foley sounds, spoken words, and musical performances, all meant to evoke a virtual journey across our planet, a planet with wind turbines covering nearly every square inch of land. I will be posting more excerpts from the mix over the next couple months.

The Fine Art Gallery is open Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gallery can open for groups beyond these hours per request

Windtopia is made possible by these collaborators:

Chris Becker, sound art
Evan O'Neil, graphic design
Alton DuLaney, performance
Lainie Diamond, performance
Xavier Loayza Jaramillo, engineering consultant and simulations
Heather Dale, assistance

"Renewed" is a collaborative work with Shiao-Nan Chen
