Zeitgeist

Rene Broussard welcomes you to Zeitgeist...

Thank you again to Rene Broussard for hosting our Music For Silent Films band / program at Zeitgeist Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center. We loved the new space - it's HUGE. The street its on seems to already be a destination for those in New Orleans seeking great progressive films and good food. On the same street as Zeitgeist is the Ashe Cultural Arts Center where film maker Charles Burnett was a guest. A Middle Eastern restaurant is going to be opening up on the same street. There are a couple of gutted buildings / spaces that are going to be rebuilt while other houses and businesses are up and looking great. The guys (Lynn, Paul, and Grant) and I were only in New Orleans for a brief time, and it was good to see these positive developments and the people behind it.

I also enjoyed meeting some new friends at the gig. The crowd was mellow and attentive. For this program we included a film by New Orleans / New York based artist Aurora Neeland. Her film inspired some especially evocative playing from the quartet. But there were several wonderful moments as always. And unless you have a recording, after a performance you just walk away from it and leaving the music (and visuals) in memory banks of those who were there. We'll be back. No question.
